My tutee came from a single parent family, and I could tell his mother probably didn’t have much time to keep track of his schoolwork. It was rewarding to see his grades increase, even slightly, and to know that I had something to do with that. It was also put a smile on my face to be able to work with the dedicated staff at his junior high and to see they genuinely cared about him and his future.
Tutoring is not only rewarding, it is challenging. I found myself just as challenged academically as my student was and I found the assignments exciting. At first I was resigned to work on assignments outside of my strengths, but I soon found myself looking forward to working on math and science assignments as I found myself remembering a lot of my own education. Ultimately it feels wonderful to share your knowledge and most importantly, share your will for someone else to succeed. |
